Department of Educational Technology
In the latest definition of educational technology presented in 2022 by the Definition and Terminology Committee of Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), “Educational Technology is the study and ethical application of theory, research, and best practices to advance knowledge as well as mediate and improve learning and performance through the strategic design, management and implementation of learning and instructional processes and resources.”
What can be inferred from this definition and other definitions of educational technology is that this field has study and professional domains as well as different dimensions in the areas of instruction, teaching and learning. Domains such as design, development, production, implementation, management and support, assessment and evaluation and dimensions such as problem solving, hardware and software.
The instruction, teaching and learning process also includes the fields of general education, special education, organizational training, adult education, continuous and lifelong learning, and professional development in preschool to diploma programs, as well as higher education and organizational education and training. It is important to pay attention to the keyword "ethical application" in the new definition of educational technology. Because success in the instruction, teaching and learning process is not possible without paying attention to ethical considerations.
